A woman who was once cleared of killing her partner has now been arrested for the murder of her husband, and as the case developed, law enforcement officials have begun unravelling a very ‘black widow-like’ web of dodgy circumstances involving the loves of her life.
Sarah Hartsfield is currently on trial for the murder of her husband, Joseph, and as investigators dig a little deeper into her past relationships, they are encountering a number of incidents and witness statements that gives the suspicion that this lady is not to be trifled with, or girlfriend material.
Hartsfield has been married five times, but her first husband, Titus Knoernschild, has been quoted as saying “I’m very surprised I got out of the marriage alive.” He went on to describe how she threatened him during their breakup.
“Don’t be surprised if you don’t make it through this.”
Even Knoernschild’s new girlfriend became nervous.
“Every time you’d turn around she’d be there. She doesn’t do it to confront you. She does it to remind you she’s there.”
Tales of her subsequent relationship have also ended in rather grim circumstances, with most of her husbands leaving because they were scared of her.
“Everybody wants out of it because they fear for their life,”
Hartsfield has been charged with first-degree murder following the death of Joseph, who confided to a relative that he was sure his spouse was ‘trying to kill him’. The poor guy was however hospitalised for a ‘suspicious illness’ and passed away before authorities had time to interview him.
Joseph had been diabetic, and following his death, eight to 10 insulin pens were found on his side of the couple’s bed. Sarah was immediately identified as a suspect following messages she sent to a friend.
Hartsfield, who did not detail any specific plans to her friend and neighbor, wrote that “it’s now a matter of implementing / executing.”
Following his death, police began to look into a previous killing the wife was involved in, this time concerning the death of her previous partner whom she killed in ‘self-defence’ – as was found at the time.
Hartsfield told investigators that she shot Bragg after he assaulted her and fired a gun at her. A forensic analysis of the weapons supported her version of events, as did witness statements.
With all the death following this lady around, more stories of her grim past have come to light, including the ‘fear’ most of her exes lived under.
Sarah Hartsfield — then known as Sarah Donohue — served in the Army for a year in the late 1990s and again for a decade beginning in 2007. She was in the Army Reserve from 1998 to 2007. She later became an intelligence analyst and deployed to Iraq from November 2007 to August 2008.
Neighbours and friends have expressed their surprise at the charges, but if her exes are to be believed, this lady was a bad penny.
