It’s only Monday, but this might just be our dumbass of the week.
All teenagers get up to some dickens every now and again, but this Limpopo teen thought that a skelm drink with his buddies was for the birds, and went about faking his own kidnapping.
News 24 reported that the teen and his accomplice faked the kidnapping and demanded R 7 000 from his parent, but perhaps they were unaware of the shitshow they would unleash as police launched a massive manhunt including the deployment of a special task team as well as a hostage negotiator.
Investigators soon identified Tafelkop in the Motetema policing area as the likely place where the teenager was held and resources were deployed to search homesteads in the area. The criminal mastermind and his buddy were found and arrested soon after.
“The victim was taken along with his 24-year-old accomplice for questioning. The duo was arrested after they confessed to conspiring and faking the kidnapping in order to get money from the family.”
The foolish teenager was reported missing after he left his home in the Lusaka, Dennilton area Friday morning to attend school 3km away. The father received numerous missed calls from his son, but it was only at noon that day that a ransom request was made.
The police have condemned the false kidnapping in a country that is currently besieged by a series of kidnappings.
“We, at times, receive reports of kidnappings and are obliged to act immediately by mobilising resources as the safety of victims could be at stake. False reports put a lot of strain on police resources which could have been directed to deal with real incidents of crime and to victims who desperately need police assistance,”
Why anyone would want to put their family through this deal is beyond us. Not only is he guaranteed to lose his screentime privileges, but the duo will also probably be donnered when they get home after their government-sponsored holiday.
