This year’s Oscars swag bag is possibly even more outrageous than last year’s.
It has been revealed that the much-coveted ‘Everybody Wins’ nominee goodie bag is worth a whopping six figures, although the actual value is still under wraps.
Last year’s bag was worth almost $140 000 – that’s a cool R2,6 million. It pays to be a well-paid movie star, clearly.
The luxury goodie bag given out to all the acting and directing nominees at each Academy Awards ceremony is compiled by the marketing company Distinctive Assets, which works independently and unaffiliated with the Academy.
‘Everybody Wins’ because while only a few of the top nominees will be walking away with a coveted golden statuette, none of them will be leaving empty-handed.

All the top acting and directing nominees – including Austin Butler, Brendan Fraser, Colin Farrell, Cate Blanchett, Ana De Armas, Michelle Williams, Michelle Yeoh, Judd Hirsch, Angela Bassett, Jamie Lee Curtis, Todd Field, and Steven Spielberg – will be bagging Japanese milk bread, a three-night stay for eight people on a volcanic Italian island, and liposuction among other luxurious treats.
If a getaway to the volcanic island of Ischia, Campania doesn’t do it for them, then there’s also a woodland escape to Ottawa, Canada.
That’s at a sprawling ten-acre property that features a swimming pool and a movie room, along with access to a sports car if they decide to venture out, notes Hello Magazine.
Another outlandish swag includes a plot of land in Australia – size and location unknown.
Other than that, the hamper contains some 60 items, with a focus on luxury wellness promotion, including hand-harvested organic dates, silk pillowcases and an executive hair restoration consultation with a Florida doctor.
There’s also a facelift with celebrity surgeon Dr Konstantin Vasyukevich inside and a sumptuous selection of chocolates with a video message embedded in the box:

It is almost too much, no?
The Guardian notes that while brands pay $4 000 to secure a spot in the hamper, there is no obligation on the recipient to accept, use or promote any of the content – advertising to high-end celebs is a good enough investment:
“While our gifts may be famous for being fun, fabulous, useful and unique, they also serve a grander purpose. Most of the brands we include are from a diverse and inclusive array of small businesses who meaningfully benefit from the global exposure that being associated with Hollywood’s Biggest Night affords them. This is celebrity marketing with a mission,” [said Distinctive Assets founder Lash Fary.]
The 2023 lucky pack will also include skincare products from Miage, luggage and flip-flops from Havaianas, a travel pillow from PETA, Ariadne Athens Skin Wellness bath ritual sets, C60 Purple Power edible massage oil, The Beauty Tea Company limited edition all-natural tea collection, and much more, obviously.
Must be nice.
