Tobey Maguire caught my eye, but then again, so did Meryl Streep, Sienna Miller, Kit Harington, Daveed Diggs, Edward Norton, Yara Shahidi, Matthew Rhys, Gemma Chan, David Schwimmer, Keri Russell, Marion Cotillard, and Forest Whitaker.
Maybe it’s going to take an A-list cast such as the above to whip us into some kind of action about the current climate crisis.
That’s what this drama series is about, with eight episodes focusing on the near-future impacts of climate change, “interwoven [with] stories about love, work, faith and family”.
In essence, Extrapolations covers a 33-year timespan and depicts how people from around the planet adapt (or perhaps not) to the effects of climate change.
Apple TV+ just released the trailer for the apocalyptic series:
The anthology series is from the writer, director, and executive producer Scott Z. Burns behind Contagion and The Bourne Ultimatum, as if there is more than enough space for big names.
Besides the star-studded cast, Apple didn’t spare any expense on this limited series, notes Engadget.
Judging by the considerable amount of “disaster porn” in the trailer, the streamers’ presumably enormous budget also stretched to include some stunning visual effects.
Extrapolations will debut its first three episodes on Apple TV+ on Friday, March 17, with the remaining five episodes airing weekly thereafter.
Hopefully, afterwards, we do more than just sit on our butts watching raging forest fires, submerged cities, and whales wither to the bone as the alarm bells ring for humanity’s seemingly inevitable run-up to the end of the world.
