Nick Frischke, arrived in South Africa on Monday, February 6, and allegedly went missing on Valentine’s Day.
The 22-year-old German tourist booked into an AirBnB in Pinelands and was last seen about a week later when he left his accommodation in the morning.
He was last seen wearing blue denim shorts, a beige T-shirt, white takkies and carrying a backpack.
An extensive search has been ongoing on the Hangberg trail between Hout Bay and Sandy Bay where he was allegedly dropped off to go hiking.
Now, some of his possessions have been found, although, he remains missing.
TimesLIVE reported last week that Frischke’s visa credit card was found and recorded in a police logbook of stolen property. A picture of the logbook was also making its way around Hout Bay community WhatsApp groups early on February 23.
His backpack and cell phone were later recovered, too, along with a knife.
People’s Post reported that three suspects in Hout Bay were arrested on charges of house robbery around the same time and were formally linked to Frischke’s disappearance:
In a statement that was posted to the Hout Bay Community Policing Forum’s (CPF) Facebook page on Tuesday, Anthony Chemaly, chair of the CPF wrote: “We can confirm this morning that three suspects in the disappearance of Nick Frischke appeared in court on Monday and they have admitted to robbing Mr Frischke.”
Two more suspects are set to appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court today.
“The victim’s backpack and cellphone were recovered as well as a knife. Despite intensive questioning and following up of information from the suspects, there is still no sign of the missing hiker,” wrote Chemaly.
The CPF said on Friday that the missing tourist has still not been found despite “a massive effort from authorities and volunteer services.
Hout Bay NSRI, a Western Cape Government Health EMS rescue squad drone team, an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) rescue squad trail search and rescue team, a Police K9 search and rescue team, WSAR (Wilderness Search and Rescue) and WSAR K9 search and rescue team have been scouring the area for days now.
The search is still on for Nick Frischke.
