This is no Shawshank Redemption-type escape, but rather something that resembles a cartoon. Unlike Andy Dufresne from the Stephen King novel, Italian mob boss Marco Raduano didn’t have decades to dig a tunnel out of his cell, so in a scene that resembles a cartoon escape, he tied bedsheets together and abseiled his way out of the maximum security prison. Once outside the prison, the convicted mobster immediately made like Roadrunner and got the hell out of there.

“It seems he had everything ready and that the escape was well planned for some time.”

Prison authorities only became aware of the escape after two hours as the surveillance cameras were not monitored during the time of his escape. This has prompted an investigation as it reeks of an ‘inside job’, but authorities insist it is due to staff shortages as 50 guards were tasked with watching the prison’s 180 prisoners.

The Italian mob boss was reportedly said to be a model prisoner who had used his job on an upper-floor library to study the schedules of guards who patrolled the facility, and timed his escape accordingly.

Raduano was convicted on cocaine trafficking charges in 2018 and at the time of his escape was serving an 18-year prison sentence. The mobster was head of a notoriously cruel crime outfit known for murdering their victims with shotgun blasts to the head in order to deprive the grieving families of an open casket funeral. According to insiders, he once owned a huge cache of weapons which was guarded by his pet boa constrictor.

Raduano has not yet been rearrested and is still at large.
