There may be a chill in the air, but summer is not over yet.
Cape Town is gearing up to host the Wavescape Surfing and Ocean festival from March 2 to 25.
During the festival, surfing and ocean enthusiasts will also be spoilt with premieres of highly anticipated surfing films.
The festival will include 14 events spread throughout the month.
Birth of the Endless Summer will make its official South African premiere at The Galileo Open Air Cinema in Kirstenbosch Gardens.
Facing Monsters and skateboarding epic Humanity Stoked will be screened in the deep south of the peninsula, at the Bertha Movie House in Khayelitsha and at the Labia Theatre, including a collaboration with the alternative Sunburnt Surf Club.
The month-long celebration of everything H2O will also feature an underwater clean-up off Jager’s Walk in Fish Hoek.
In addition, an unusual collection of 10 artistic surfboards will be auctioned at the Wavescape Artboard Project at Jack Black’s Taproom on Wednesday, March 22. All proceeds will go to ocean charities.

Social media influencer and podcaster Steve Shooter will also be doing his bit in a branded mobile Podcast Bus at the various events.
The 2023 event poster was designed by Buenos Aires artist Falu Carolei, whose work pays homage to skateboarding, rock, surf, tattoo, and graffiti cultures.
Check out the event website for more details.
Whether you are a gnarly surfer or just someone who has a passion for the ocean, the event is sure to be a brilliant way to say goodbye to summer.
