A Polish girl named Julia has been wildly claiming on Instagram that she is the missing toddler Madeleine McCann.
Going by a few surnames – Faustyna, Wendell, and Wandelt – Julia has caused a media frenzy over the past week with her Instagram account @iammadeleinemcann where she provides “evidence” that she is the person from the world’s most infamous unsolved missing child case.
On the evening of May 3 in 2007, Madeleine McCann, from Leicestershire in the United Kingdom, went missing from her bed in a holiday apartment in the Portuguese resort town Praia da Luz.
Maddie was three years old at the time, meaning if she was alive today, she would be 19. Julia is 21:

As the situation heats up and people vie for Julia to get a DNA test to prove who she really is, Julia’s family released a statement sensationally denying her wild claim, Yahoo! News reported:
Her family said that it’s “obvious that Julia isn’t Maddie” in a statement posted by a missing person organisation in Poland:
“It is obvious to us as a family that Julia is our daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece, cousin and stepdaughter,” they wrote.
The family continued by saying they have Julia’s birth certificate and several hospital discharge documents, as well as many pictures of her during childhood, which prove she is in fact their relative and discredit any association to Maddie.
Julia now plans to take her Polish family to court as they reportedly refused to allow her to take a DNA test, per The Daily Beast:
Fia Johansson, a self-styled psychic medium who is listed as Julia Faustyna’s representative on the 21-year-old’s Instagram page, told The U.S. Sun on Wednesday that Faustyna’s mother has resisted taking part in the test, claiming “she has Julia’s birth certificate.” In an interview with Australian outlet News 7, Johansson said that Faustyna’s father similarly declined to participate.
The medium added, “If they are not going to do it [of their own] free will, then we have to go to court. You know, we’re going to have to get the court order.”
The twist is that Julia apparently cannot remember a lot from her childhood, being diagnosed with post-traumatic amnesia after getting sexually abused by a German paedophile:

Julia shared in a Facebook post that she had received treatment throughout her youth but her family barely spoke about her traumatic past and her mother apparently took her out of therapy as soon as she started asking questions about Madeleine McCann.
The family say that she actually refused treatment and didn’t take her medication:
“Numerous therapies, medications, psychologists and psychiatrists” were provided for Julia, the family said. “She was not left alone”.
“She refuses treatment, does not take medication regularly. She also did not take advantage of the possibility of treatment at a very good centre in Poland, which agreed to accept her,” they continued.
They added that they think Julia has gone and caused a stir because “she always wanted to be popular”:
“We are devastated by the current situation,” they said.
It is quite telling that they are refusing to allow a DNA test. Surely, if they are right in saying that Julia is making things up, it won’t matter?
The situation and claims are becoming highly convoluted. A DNA test is surely required to settle the matter once and for all.
