Influencers are turning natural beauty on its head.
While some Gen Z’s fight against bullying with the body positivity movement, there’s a whole host of other under-30s overindulging in plastic surgery and cosmetic procedures like there’s no tomorrow.
I mean, the generation is a little more nihilistic than others – what with all the climate catastrophes, big corp corruption, and war going on – so perhaps they have every right to try and look good as the world burns down around them.
The New York Post revealed that 75% of plastic surgeons saw a spike in clients under 30, according to data released last week by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, which is a “consistently higher plateau over the five previous years”.
Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr Ashley Amalfi based in New York said that one-third of her patients are Gen Z:
“I really see that as sort of this extension of the beauty market,” Amalfi told The Post, calling the trend “great.”
The 20-somethings mostly ask for procedures like breast lifts, breast augmentations and Botox injections.
Amalfi explained that Botox for Gen Z is merely preventative as “they’re taking the time and investing in themselves and doing these sorts of things at a younger age,” she explained.
Alix Earle, the 22-year-old certified It girl that you see above is brazenly open about her love for plastic surgery, having just celebrated her one-year ‘boob-iversary’:

26-year-old content creator Jazmyn Smith, who has already had rhinoplasty and Botox, also revealed to her thousands of TikTok followers that she was getting breast augmentation:

Apparently, it’s “a rack” over “little itty bitty titties” these days:

The Manhattan-based TikToker argued that the only problem with plastic surgery is if “you try to hide it”, adding that “I think it was more of a touchy subject years ago than it is now”.
Then, 25-year-old Audrey Peters, also a popular content creator, documented her entire journey before and after getting chin liposuction:

Peters told The Post at the time that “I’m not saying I started the trend, but I will say after I got it, I saw a lot of people do it”.
Since Gen Z typically spends four or more hours scrolling on social media, according to a report from December 2022, getting persuaded and swayed by the opinions of strangers on the internet is rife.
Eli Rallo, 24, said that being chronically online made her way more self-conscious:
“I started doing TikTok, and people just started being so f – – king mean to me about my smile, to the point where I stopped smiling in pictures altogether,” the New Yorker, who has over 655,000 followers, admitted. “I decided to get the lip flip, because I couldn’t deal with it anymore.”
Her haters criticised her “gummy” smile, which the “lip flip” procedure, which involves injecting a smidge of Botox into the muscles of the upper lip to keep it in place when smiling, would fix:
@thejarr Honestly my smile will always be gummy for those asking if it makes a giant difference but @drjlodnp ♬ Hot New Bombshell – Dance Moms
Peters, too, commented that because the internet is so “f – – king brutal” she paid to remove her “double chin” with a procedure called air sculpting.
Correct me if I am wrong, but it might be way cheaper to get off the internet so that one can focus on the more wholesome practice of loving thyself from the inside out.
