A young woman believes she is the missing British child Madeleine McCann and has shared “evidence” to support her claims.
Julia Wendell, from Poland, has gone viral after launching an Instagram account named @iammadeleinemcann, which began because she started wondering if she was Maddie and then started building a case that she was the missing kid.
The 21-year-old has been sharing a string of photographs on the account that she claims prove her likeness to Madeleine and her parents, Kate and Gerry McCann.
She’s already amassed a following of almost 900 000 people who are gripped by the latest twist in one of the world’s most infamous unsolved missing child cases.
On the evening of May 3 in 2007, Madeleine McCann, from Leicestershire in the United Kingdom, went missing from her bed in a holiday apartment in the Portuguese resort town Praia da Luz:

Maddie was three years old, meaning if she was alive today, she would be 19, notes NZ Herald:
The last official update on the Madeleine McCann case came in 2020 when German and Portuguese investigators stated they suspected Maddie was killed by convicted sex predator Christian Brueckner.
The alleged offences span a 17-year period between 2000 and 2017, The Sun reported at the time. He has not been charged with any offence in relation to Maddie’s disappearance.
Despite extensive searches and numerous police investigations, which have cost the McCanns £13 million (approximately $25 million) to date, Maddie’s body has never been found.
Until now, with Julia alleging she is alive and well:
Julia now claims a member of the McCann family has asked her to take a DNA test, however this has not been confirmed.
Here is some of her proposed evidence that she is Maddie:

Julia seems to have also been working with Dr Fia Johansson (@persianmedium), who says she works with police and private investigators to find missing persons, perhaps to bolster her case. Although, I am not sure it’s working:

Besides Julia showing marks on her body that are similar to Maddie’s, helpfully adding red circles to illustrate her point, she’s built up a case about her family not wanting to allow a DNA test as being suspect:
“I asked [my grandmother] for a DNA test with her or with my parents and she will not take a DNA test with me and I can’t say she has to do it.”
She said her family said she is “not normal” and labelled her “horrible” for giving “hope to the McCanns”.
The revelation came during a live chat with an unidentified social media user, who branded her family’s refusal to take a DNA test or supply her birth certificate “fishy” and “concerning”.
Julia agreed, explaining through tears she “asked” for proof she was their child, but they made her “feel bad” – adding the situation has left her feeling “scared and alone” and revealing her relationship with her partner is suffering too.
Julia said on Instagram the only evidence her grandma has supplied is hard to verify:
Julia told followers she’s not looking for viral fame and “truly believes” she is missing Maddie. However, some internet sleuths are not buying it, noting how she has multiple surnames – Faustyna, Wendell and Wandelt.
Scrolling through her posts feels like deep diving into a troubled mind for sure.
However, surely, it couldn’t hurt to get a DNA test and investigate Julia’s claims a little.
London’s Metropolitan Police nor the Find Madeleine campaign have issued statements about Julia’s claim.
