A 22-year-old German tourist seems to have disappeared from the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town recently.
The search has been on for Nick Frischke, who arrived in South Africa on Monday, February 6.
He apparently booked into an AirBnB in Pinelands and was last seen about a week later, on Wednesday, February 15 when he left his accommodation at about 10 AM on foot.
He is supposed to be wearing blue denim shorts, a beige T-shirt, white takkies and a backpack.
Police spokesperson Joseph Swartbooi confirmed that Frischke’s last known whereabouts was on Valentine’s Day at the V&A Waterfront.
Nick’s father, Tom Frischke, posted an appeal for help on the Germans in Cape Town Facebook group, noted TimesLIVE:
“Hello, we miss Nick. He is currently on holiday in Cape Town and has lost contact since Wednesday. He also did not come home on Wednesday and Thursday in his accommodation (in Pinelands). All his stuff is still there.”
“He signed up for a surf course on Thursday but never showed up for it. We don’t know what to do and think that he is in a helpless situation. The mountain guard and local police, as well as the Germans, are informed,” the concerned father wrote.
Shame, the panic and uncertainty must be devastating.
Swartbooi added that it is “imperative to note that Nick does not speak English very well”.
Anyone with information that can lead to Frischke’s return is kindly requested to contact the investigating officer Detective Sgt Daluxolo Mhlauli on 076 609 0764 or alternatively call Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
While this is a serious matter that deserves attention, it is an opportunity to consider the countless local kids and teens who go missing in South Africa every day.
The organisation Missing Children South Africa notes that a child goes missing every five hours in South Africa, according to figures released by the South African Police Service Missing Persons Bureau for 2013.
This adds up to a total of 1 697 children per year.
