Leonardo DiCaprio is well known for his preference for dating younger women, but I have to admit that his latest ‘unconfirmed’ romance with 19-year-old model Eden Polani leaves us feeling a little uneasy, if not outright dubious.
As a middle-aged man myself, I have to admit that the 49-year-old actor’s love life has always seemed like a midlife crisis wish list, but his latest ‘barely legal’ maybe-girlfriend has made me question, at which point a ‘type’ becomes a ‘victim’. After all, Polani is not yet old enough to order a beer in the US, which makes me wonder just how romantic dinners with the ageing heartthrob can be. “I will have the Bollinger Brut Special Cuvee, the girl will have a Cream Soda float.”

Despite all the shoulder punching and high-fives, most men would agree that dating a woman (girl?) of 19 is just not cricket, especially if you are old enough to have a child their age. A child that could have graduated medical school and become a doctor before your next girlfriend was even born. Or was born six years after Titanic sailed onto our screens. Let that sink in for a moment.
Stop making jokes about Leonardo DiCaprio being a almost 50 dating literal teenagers and start calling him what he is – a predator.

So, is it predatory behaviour? ? Or is Leo being given grief for outdated perceptions of dating age gaps? According to the screeching masses on social media, the ‘relationship’ is not on.
“Leonardo DiCaprio’s girlfriend is so young her high school experience was interrupted by COVID-19,”
“48-year-old Leonardo DiCaprio insists that everything is great between him and his 19-year-old girlfriend adding, ‘The only thing that’s difficult is when I have to talk to her,’ ”

According to NY Post, people close to both DiCaprio and Polani have denied the dating rumours and insist that pictures of the two together have been ‘coincidental’. But considering the star’s ex-list, it’s not too much of a stretch to believe he is trolling too-shallow waters this time.
Let’s see how this latest Hollywood scandal-in-the-making plays out, but I think this is a hashtag in the making.
