Dramatic footage surfaced recently of a Coastguard Rescue Team attempting to save a man from a stolen yacht, as wave after wave slammed into the stricken vessel.
In the clip, a rescue swimmer can be seen swimming towards the boat moments before another wave slams into them, causing the boat to roll over in the surf. Authorities have reported that both the rescue swimmer and boat thief were both plucked safely from the water, but looking at the video it looks terrifying.
Believe it or not, that is the ‘normal’ part of the story.
Canadian police have confirmed the Victoria man is also wanted for a bizarre incident that took place at an Astoria, Oregon, home featured in the 1985 cult film, “The Goonies.” Authorities have been on the lookout for the man since a video emerged of him placing dead fish on the porch of the famous port city house before dancing around the property like a goon.
News 21 reported that the man, identified as Jericho Labonte, 35, was already wanted for criminal harassment and mischief when he apparently stole the yacht and got stuck in rough seas off the Victoria Coast. It was only after the daring rescue and flight to the hospital that police realised he was the ‘Goonies house guy’. By that time the crazy pirate had already been released from the hospital.
“It’s been a really odd 48 hours.”
Why the man decided to pay tribute to the cult film’s location and then steal a yacht is still unsure. Police have however managed to locate the Goonies pirate, and he was arrested on several charges relating to the stolen yacht and other crimes.
