Horrifying footage is emerging on social media following the devastating earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria. So far authorities are estimating the death toll to be over 11 000 people.
In several videos recently uploaded, people can be seen running for their lives as the apartment blocks around them crumble to the ground in scenes that feel eerily similar to 9/11.
Aid groups consider the first 72 hours after a natural disaster as crucial for rescuing survivors.
According to The Guardian, devastated locals have criticized the reaction from the Turkish government as too slow, something which president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan responded to during his visit to the decimated city of Kahramanmaraş.
“On the first day, we experienced some issues but then on the second day and today the situation is under control,”
Drone footage of the city showed the destructive power of the 7.8 earthquake that hit the region at 4:17 am local time.
