Authorities at Tel-Aviv airport were shocked when a couple ditched their baby at the check-in counter for Raynair Airlines. According to the Airport Authorities, the couple did not have a ticket for the infant and simply left him at the counter as they raced to catch their flight.
The airport could not say whether the parents, who had Belgian passports, were unable to buy a ticket for the infant, or simply did not want to purchase one.
‘The check-in agent at Ben Gurion Airport contacted Airport Security, who retrieved the passengers, and this is now a matter for local police.’
When police arrived on the scene, the parents had already been reunited with the toddler and as such no ‘active investigation’ is being undertaken, but the whole incident has left airport personnel, as well as Ryanair employees extremely shocked.
Cellphone footage of the moment airport staff found the abandoned baby has also been shared on youtube:
“All the workers were in shock. We have never seen anything like that. We didn’t believe what we were seeing.”
The parents did not board the Ryanair flight following the incident, and airport authorities have not released any further statements.
Deep in our hearts, we hope that this is just a case of forgetful parents as they rushed to catch their flight.
