Gauteng is turning into a real jungle.

Sheba the tigress was euthanised earlier this month after she escaped from a plot in the Walkers Fruit Farm area of Midvaal, south of Johannesburg.

During her moments of freedom, the eight-year-old tiger managed to attack a 39-year-old man, landing him in hospital.

She also attacked a pig and two dogs, with both dogs needing to be put down due to the severity of their injuries.

Then, this morning, residents in Eastleigh Ridge, Edenvale, were asked to remain on alert after a tiger was spotted roaming around.

At this rate, they can easily film the next Tarzan movie in the East Rand.

News24 reports that CCTV footage shows the wild animal roaming around the yard of an office building at 05:22AM:

Keshvi Nair, a spokesperson of the National Council of SPCAs alerted the Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development regarding this situation as they are responsible for issuing permits and “allowing these dangerous and wild animals to be kept in captivity in a residential area”.

A search was immediately mobilised with the hopes that this young tiger would be spared death.

Thankfully, the news has just come out that the tiger was indeed recaptured and is being taken to a sanctuary:

Gary Wilson of the security company Swat SOS 24/7 confirmed that the tiger was located and sedated. Wilson said the animal would be taken to a sanctuary for safekeeping.

Wilson said the tiger jumped from house to house in the Edenvale area and that the owner of the animal is not yet known.

Thank goodness we’re not down another tiger thanks to reckless owners.
