The word “todger” probably brings to mind frostbite now, thanks to a little tidbit Prince Harry revealed in his memoir Spare.
That, as well as how the media is now quite synonymous with fear and suffering for the royal and his wife Meghan Markle.
We highlighted some of the more gasp-worthy tales from the book, but if you haven’t forked out the R550 to read it all yourself and still want to know how Harry has waged war against his family, then head over to Showmax.
The SA streamer has snatched up Tom Bradby’s face-to-face with the Prince in Harry: The Interview, notes SAPeople.
(We don’t mean Tom Brady, the NFL player, by the way).
Watch the trailer before we mention a few of the most revelatory claims Harry made in the interview:
Again, Harry spends some time talking about the six years he spent trying to convince his family that the ongoing racist and misogynist media attacks on his wife Meghan were dangerous:
“Everything is just, ‘No, you, this is not what’s happening. You are imagining it’. And that’s really, that’s really hard to take,” Harry tells Tom.
“You can’t just continue to say to me that I’m delusional and paranoid when all the evidence is stacked up, because I was genuinely terrified about what’s gonna happen to me. My wife shares her experience. And instead of backing off, both the institution and the tabloid media in the UK doubled-down.”
His trauma from losing his mother, Princess Diana, allegedly to the media, is clearly rearing its head in the here and now.
This is something Harry speaks about in the book and interview, too, noting how the royal family didn’t bring in therapists and counsellors for the princes to deal with the death of their mother at such a young and confusing age:
… when Harry admitted he was struggling, King Charles admitted with a genuine sense of apology, “I suppose it’s my fault. I should have got you the help you needed years ago”.
In Harry’s campaign for media reform, he claims that his family has actively contributed to Meghan’s vilification in the press, despite always remaining so silent:
“My family have been briefing the press solidly for well over a decade … what people are starting to understand now is that a royal source is not an unknown person, it is the palace specifically briefing the press, but covering their tracks by being unnamed. Some of the most heinous, horrible things that have been said about me and my wife, are completely condoned by the palace ‘cause it’s coming from the palace.”
Most heart-breakingly, Harry also reveals that his close family had a solemn oath or promise, to swear on Princess Diana’s life, and use the plea in times of need:
In his book he calls it, “the secret code, the universal password, ever since we were boys those three words were to be used only in times of extreme crisis, ‘on mummy’s life’.
For nearly 25 years we’d reserved that soul-crushing vow for times when one of us needed to be heard, to be believed quickly, for times when nothing else would do.”
Harry and Meghan have been on a rampage to show how their family has been divided by media conglomerates’ tactics to drive sales through inciting hatred.
Whether that will work in their favour is up for debate.
Anyway, the interview is an interesting snapshot into these dynamics and revelations: as always, decide for yourself.
