Police officers stationed at the Relela Police Station were forced to flee their posts and abandon the small police station following an apparent reign of terror by spooks. According to an article in The Citizen, the terrified police officers were forced to spend the rest of their shift driving around the small town of Relela, leaving the station to be manned by only the spirits.
Perhaps afraid of being ridiculed, the officers reported the incident to a local reporter first, rather than reaching out for help to the nearby Tzaneen Police Station.
“What I have seen last night is despicable.”
The police station is surrounded by the graves of a family that has relocated, but the officers said that the strange occurrences usually begin in the toilettes, with wind blowing through the door and branches outside being shaken about. The racket is soon joined by the ‘cries of a wild animal’. Footsteps like the sound of a ‘giant elephant’ can also be heard stomping about behind the police station. The lights are also said to go on and off on their own.
Locals in the village do not appear to be surprised, or alarmed and note that everyone knows about the ghosts running amok at night.
“During the day the station is a cool place to work because of the breeze from the trees. But during cloudy or raining nights, the ghosts strike.”
Whether this is a case of poltergeists terrorising the fuzz, or just the result of isolation, the wind, and some unexpected load shedding, remains to be seen. But judging by a previous [article], perhaps the officers are just in need of a good night’s sleep.
