All eyes are on Prince Harry as he navigates the media swarm that he agitated with his new book Spare.
Lucky for you Harry, Kim Kardashian is so thrilled to have all the media eyes on her that she has gone and bought your mother’s amethyst cross necklace for a tidy sum.
Page Six confirmed that Kim acquired Princess Diana’s iconic amethyst-and-diamond cross necklace in a Sotheby’s auction for a cool $197 453.
Four bidders were apparently competing for the piece, dubbed the Attallah Cross, but it landed up in the hands of a Kardashian “at more than double its pre-auction estimate”.
That’s one way to move the spotlight:
.@KimKardashian has bought a pendant previously worn by Princess Diana. The amethyst and diamond-encrusted Attallah crucifix was created by @GarrardLondon and apparently loaned to Diana by its owner several times. @sothebys confirm that it sold today by auction for $197,453. pic.twitter.com/rVRUrKxO8F

This is especially controversial as Kim was criticised for allegedly damaging the so-called “World’s Most Expensive Dress” at the 2022 Met Gala, referring to Marilyn Monroe’s “Happy Birthday, Mr President” dress.

People were really upset that she wore the historical artefact, though Kim assured everyone that she didn’t damage the garment and returned the gown in perfect condition.
The Ripley’s Believe It or Not! museum, which loaned her the look, confirmed the dress wasn’t harmed.
Well, now she owns the 5,25-carat necklace that Diana simply loaned a couple of times during her lifetime:
The fleurée-style design was created by Garrard (the same jeweler behind Diana’s iconic sapphire engagement ring) in the 1920s.
Naim Attallah CBE purchased the piece in the 1980s, and lent it to Diana several times for events in the years that followed. Per the release, “It is understood that the cross was only ever worn by the princess, and following her death, it was never seen in public again until now.”
Diana wore the pendant on her own string of pearls at a 1987 charity gala in London, paired with a matching black-and-purple velvet Catherine Walker dress – a bold move on the princess’s part:
“Though amethyst traditionally represents the privilege of royalty, Diana’s choice to wear the pendant with an unusually long chain encapsulates her knack for showcasing her collection of royal jewels in a unique way, unafraid to go against tradition and alter lavish pieces.”
Let’s see what Kardashian does with it.
Nothing as grand as Daina, though, surely?
