The dry, windy season is here, which means fires on the mountains.
Yesterday (Monday), a fire raged on the mountain slopes along Boyes Drive in Lakeside.
The firefighters battled to contain the blaze above a section of Table Mountain along the scenic drive from Lakeside to Kalk Bay, but eventually, they managed to stimmy the fire.
EWN reported that four firefighting vehicles and three helicopters were on the scene.
SANParks spokesperson Lauren Howard-Clayton said there was no immediate threat to property:
Cape Town ETC reported that it took a total of five helicopters to extinguish the fire, with the Winelands Fire Protection Association deploying two additional helicopters to assist:

The pilots have returned to base, whereas the @NCCWildfires crews remain on scene, conducting mop up operations throughout the evening to ensure flare-ups and hot spots are put out.
Well done to all involved.

The NCC Environmental Services Newlands remained on the scene all of last night for mop-up operations and to ensure flare-ups didn’t occur.
Hat’s off to all the firefighters who worked so tirelessly to ensure this fire didn’t rage too far and wide.
