An entire island is up for sale at well under the average price of a house in a city like London or New York.
That’s incredible. Keep reading.
While Iguana Island, off the coast of Nicaragua in the Caribbean, is not affordable to most people, it is relatively well-priced when you compare it to property in some of the most expensive cities.
About 20 kilometres off the coast of Bluefields in eastern Nicaragua, surrounded by almost untouched turquoise waters, is the pristine five acres of land with a house and more.
TimeOut reveals what you get from the listing on Private Islands Inc:
The home consists of three bedrooms and two bathrooms, as well as a kitchen, living room, dining room and bar. There’s a wraparound porch, as well as access to wifi, phone and TV signal. In other words, this is no derelict island outpost.
Elsewhere on the island, Iguana boasts a 28-foot-tall (8 metre) watchtower and its own docks and boardwalks, as well as all the lush vegetation you’d expect of a Caribbean island. Thanks to its 360-degree ocean views, it obviously makes for great swimming and snorkelling, too.
It also has the potential for a swimming pool and helipad, if you have extra pocket money.
Now for the price. Iguana Island is going for a very cool, very stable $475 000, or R7,9 million. I’m cool, I’m stable.
Reassuringly, Iguana Island is just outside the ‘hurricane belt’, which is the bit of the Caribbean prone to tropical storms and hurricanes.
That’s relevant considering how the Earth’s weather system is freaking out at the moment. No guarantee, then, probably.
Still, cutting out those noisy neighbours for something a little more remote and tropical sounds like a good place to be right about now.
