Hayley Willette had no idea that she was going on a date with a potential serial killer when she swiped right on Tinder in December 2015.
What followed was a very uncomfortable date that ended in her faking ‘violently vomiting’ and being told she had good child-rearing hips.
Willette only realised that she had been on a date with the Idaho murder suspect Brian Kohberger when she read the details of his alleged killing spree in a small Pennsylvania newspaper, per The New York Post.
The (un)lucky young woman has now detailed her date with a killer in a series of TikTok videos:
@yellllyahhhh #stitch with @__summer_sunshine__ Bryan was not even the creepiest Tinder date I’ve been on. Stay safe and always trust your gut. #bryankohberger #idahocollegestudents #idahomurders #tinderdate ♬ original sound – Hayley
She is quoted as saying:
“As soon as I saw his mug shot, I knew. He just has an unforgettable face. I got off work and met him at the theater. He paid for my movie ticket but he didn’t want popcorn, so I ended up buying some for myself. We watched the movie and then he said he would take me back to my dorm.”
After getting back to her college residence, Kohberger became “really pushy about coming up to her room”. Willette goes on to describe how she pretended to throw up in the bathroom in an attempt to get out of the situation:
“I thought that was the weirdest thing so I was like, ‘I need to get this guy to leave’ but I didn’t wanna be mean, so I started to pretend to loudly throw up. After a minute or two, he messaged me on Tinder saying he was going to go. It felt uncomfortable when he decided he needed to wait outside of the bathroom for me.”
Describing the suspected killer as quiet but not shy, she wrote the weird date off as just another Tinder blooper, until she read about his alleged killing spree in 2015:
“It was shocking for sure. I don’t know if I’m a good judge of character either way, but I don’t feel surprised that he was arrested for it, either.”
Per The Daily Beast, Kohberger stands accused of the murder of four Idaho students, Kaylee Goncalves, Ethan Chapin, Xana Kernodle, and Madison Mogen, and is currently on trial in the US.
The murders occurred while two of their roommates were in the house, with one student coming face to face with Kohberger as he casually passed her on his way out of the house.
Kohberger was linked to the crimes through DNA evidence.
