What should an ex-royal couple do when they move across the pond to start a new life away from the prying eyes of the British media?

Release a Netflix series, of course.

All the world’s exiled are doing it.

Besides that bombshell Oprah interview, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry haven’t had much of an opportunity to tell their side of the story, their Netflix documentary argues.

Per Sky News, opening the series is a written statement, describing it as a “first-hand account of Harry & Meghan’s story told with never before seen personal archive”.

As a result, the Royal Family is no doubt preparing for possible bombshell revelations as parts of their personal lives stream across the world.

A large part of the British media, ever the loyalists that they are, are going in guns blazing and torches lit to burn Harry & Meghan to the ground.

The Sussexes are also suing a number of British newspaper proprietors on various grounds, so, you know, they’re open game and all.

From where I stand, nobody can possibly be happy with the airing of Harry & Meghan, including Harry and Meghan, but alas, here we are, three episodes deep.

Spoiler alert. The episodes were released this morning on Netflix and are being spoken about already:

In the second episode, the Duke of Sussex talks about paparazzi interest in their relationship and social media harassment, and refers to his mother, Diana. “To see another woman in my life, that I love, go through this feeding frenzy, that’s hard,” he says. “It is basically the hunter versus the prey.”

Dating Meghan “became a combination of car chases, anti-surveillance driving and disguises, which isn’t a particularly healthy way to start a relationship but we always came at it with as much humour as possible”, he says. “Whenever we saw each other we would give each other a massive hug and try and have as much of a normal life as possible.”

Meghan also spoke about a death threat that she got while she was in Toronto:

“I would say to the police, if any other woman in Toronto said to you I have six grown men who are sleeping in their cars around my house who follow me everywhere that I go and I feel scared, wouldn’t you say that it was stalking? And they said yes, but there’s really nothing we can do because of who you’re dating.

“I was like, so I’m just supposed to live like this? And then I got a death threat and things changed because I needed to have security.”

Besides these safety concerns being teased out from a couple of angles, the series also delves into how they both met. Apparently, Harry saw Meghan on Instagram and reached out.

Then a friend emailed Meghan to set them up, calling Harry “Prince Haz” and she was all set to say yes.

From that moment on, “my face was everywhere, my life was everywhere, tabloids had taken over everything,” Meghan said of her early experiences with the press via CNN:

Harry took aim at the British media within the first few minutes of the show. “No one knows that full truth. We know the full truth, the institution knows the full truth, and the media knows the full truth because they’ve been in on it,” Harry said.

He then went on to directly compare Meghan to his mother, Diana, saying “So much of what Meghan is and how she is is so similar to my mum… She has the same confidence, she has this warmth about her”:

“I accept that there will be people around the world who fundamentally disagree with what I’ve done and how I’ve done it. But I knew that I had to do everything I could to protect my family, especially after what happened to my mum,” Harry continued.

You should really just watch the series for yourself if you’re intrigued.

Personally, as I said before, there is so much royal raucous it is hard to think straight and decide who is right or wrong, truthful, or fictitious.

For that reason, among others, no thanks.
