I have immense sympathy for everyone named Karen.

There you are, just going about your business, and all of a sudden your name is dragged through the mud on a global scale.

They even made a movie called Karen (IMDb scores it a truly rancid 2,9/10) and we have our fair share on display here in South Africa, too.

I Googled to find out the male equivalent and some suggest it’s Terry (sorry, gents) while others say Ken. I reckon we dub our equivalent Koos, in honour of it rhyming with doos.

Anyway, the latest incident involves a video posted with the caption, “Have a literal Karen in SA”.

It’s clear that the woman featured, who has an American accent, is not impressed with her neighbour’s braaing antics:

The Karen deal is sealed when she threatens to call the police.

Ma’am, most of the time our police don’t even arrive when we’re reporting real crimes.

The story has been covered by multiple outlets, including Jacaranda FM, TimesLIVE, and SAPeople, although the most information anybody can provide is to say the “unidentified woman seems to be visiting South Africa from America”.

Social media users have suggested she’s in town for the annual Karen conference.

That must be the one that Steve Hofmeyr is headlining.
