The likes of The Daily Mail and The Sun are hard at work to discredit Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Netflix documentary series and the first part hasn’t even been released yet.
Fire and pitchfork-wielding critics are taking apart the trailer for Harry & Meghan, which features an image from a totally different context to what it is supposed to depict in the trailer.
The trailer opens with a number of black-and-white photos of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex falling in love, before transitioning to shots that reveal the more difficult and emotional moments of their relationship, notes Yahoo! Lifestyle.
One image shows a crowd of photographers pointing their cameras hungrily towards something, supposedly highlighting that the couple were hounded by paparazzi when they lived in the UK:
However, The Daily Mail and The Sun reported that the image was actually taken at the London premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part Two in 2011, five years before Harry and Meghan met:
According to the publication, no members of the royal family attended the event, which saw author JK Rowling and the film’s stars Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint walk the red carpet.
Instead, the photo reportedly comes up first on the stock image website Alamy when you search ‘paparazzi’.
One of The Sun’s photographers, Doug Seeburg, who is in the image in question, says this looks like “lazy picture research”.
The publication’s royal expert, Ingrid Seward, says it weakens Harry’s point:
“I don’t imagine Harry would have realised, but Netflix have been careless here as it weakens Harry’s comment about protecting his family. This fake picture weakens his point.”
The series is reportedly due for release on Thursday and royal sources from The Daily Mail have already said they expect “Oprah with more crying”:
Buckingham Palace sources said that there was ‘mounting frustration and exhaustion’ at the barrage of complaints that Harry and Meghan relentlessly and publicly make about their alleged treatment by members of the Royal Family.
…’It’s likely to be a difficult few weeks but really after that what on earth more can they have to say?’ another insider asked.
‘It’s all going to start to become very “end of the pier” show if they are not careful, hawking around the same complaints on talk shows and documentaries.’
That’s actually tame in comparison to what reporter Sarah Vine from The Daily Mail had to say. She claims the trailer shows “weapons-grade narcissism and a Biblical level of betrayal”.
Harry and Meghan can obviously expect a few grenades thrown their way after their “attacks” on the Royal Family but jeez, everyone needs to calm down.
