Instagram is once again full of everyone’s Spotify listening habits from the past year.
It’s been super revealing to see how each person’s most played songs, artists, and albums reveal a little snippet into who they are… or who they wish to be.
For me, my most played song was ‘Bunny Is A Rider’ by Caroline Polachek not because I am an elusive bad b**ch but because sometimes I wish I was.
Anyway, enough about me. Spotify might make me feel special by saying I’m in the top 0,1% of listeners to my top streamed artist, but the world’s music lovers are aplenty, and they’re tearing it up for the top songs, artists, podcasts, and listening trends of 2022.
As the streamer notes in its Newsroom, “it’s time to unveil what the world collectively delighted in and obsessed over with Spotify’s 2022 Wrapped”.
It might come as a surprise given how Taylor Swift almost broke the internet (well, Ticketmaster’s side of the internet) with her Era Tour ticket sales, but she is not the biggest Spotify artist of 2022.
Rather, it is Bad Bunny, who tops the music streaming service’s annual list of most-streamed global artists for the third year in a row.
The rapper generated more than 18,5 billion streams in the last 11 months, which is actually double the amount he received in 2021.
Taylor Swift – thanks to her invitation to meet her at midnight – is settling into being the second-most-streamed artist of the year globally.
Rounding out the top five artists are the two very familiar Toronto powerhouses, Drake and The Weeknd, along with the K-Pop band BTS.
E! Online notes that when it comes to the most-streamed song of the year, Taylor and Bad Bunny’s massive discography takes a backseat:
In this world, it’s just us…and Harry Styles’ “As It Was.” The Harry’s House tune is the most-streamed song of 2022 on Spotify, having been streamed over 1.6 billion times globally.
Glass Animals’ 2020 single “Heat Waves” continues to be a smash amongst fans, landing in the runner-up spot. Meanwhile, Spotify listeners couldn’t get enough of Justin Bieber and The Kid LAROI’s 2021 collab “Stay,” which makes the Top 5 list for the second year running. The fourth and fifth spots belong to Bad Bunny’s “Me Porto Bonito” and “Tití Me Preguntó,” respectively.
Considering how prevalent Bad Bunny is, it is no surprise that his album, Un Verano Sin Ti, which was first dropped on May 6, is the most-streamed of the year:
As for the top global podcast of the year? Come on, you know the answer.
Yep, the most popular podcast for the third year running is The Joe Rogan Experience.
He is followed by Call Her Daddy by host Alex Cooper, Anything Goes with Emma Chamberlain, Caso 63, a Spotify Original podcast in five language iterations, and lastly, Crime Junkie, a true-crime podcast from Ashley Flowers and Brit Prawat.
Other interesting listening trends to come out of Spotify this year included some interestingly named playlists:
And one that I can totally get behind, and can’t actually believe I haven’t all this time:
Summer is just starting over here, anyway.
Little Miss, the “It’s Corn” music meme, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever‘s official playlist, and the Stranger Things 4 official playlist were also up there.
My favourite feature this year was the “get to know your music-listening personality”. If you haven’t done so already, you can check that out here.
