The 2022 Qatar FIFA World Cup has been loaded with controversies.
So I suppose it’s not completely unexpected that someone on TikTok jumped on the bandwagon, claiming to be able to time travel and thus know who the World Cup winner will be this year.
People are eager to see who will take home the trophy, and this TikToker is hyping everyone up with their alleged predictions, which have gone viral on the platform.
Going by the username @worldcuptimetraveller, they currently have over 58 000 followers and 7,8 million views on the first video posted on the profile in June 2021.
That was when the ‘time traveller’ was predicting the wins in the 2020 European Championships final (played in 2021 due to COVID-19 delays):

HITC has more on that:
At the time, the user predicted Italy would beat England in the 2020 European Championships final…
The prediction did come true. However, the video hinted the score would be 2-1. In reality, the score was 1-1, with Italy winning on penalties.
Three videos about the Euro 2020 games later and the time traveller is back with hints about the 2022 World Cup.
On November 19, the user announced he was back, followed by a second video posted on November 20 claiming that Qatar would lose against Ecuador:

That was a relatively straightforward prediction.
The TikTok time traveller has since become more ballsy, predicting that Brazil will beat France in the 2022 World Cup final, with apparent videos from the future match:

Of course, many commenters are having none of it:
One user pointed out the videos shared by the alleged time traveler show a clip of Brazil star Richarlison from the team’s match against Serbia that was played on November 24.
Another added: “Bro used the celebration clip of Richy’s goal yesterday.” Another said: “The celebrations wouldn’t be so mild in the final – are you kidding me?”
Again, Brazil is one of the tournament favourites and it’s not hard to believe that they will actually win.
Very groundbreaking stuff, @worldcuptimetraveller. Give us something less obvious next time and we’ll see about falling for your shenanigans.
