A word of advice for if you ever find yourself visiting the Chichén Itzá archaeological site in Yucatán, Mexico.
Don’t climb the ancient Mayan Temple of Kukulcán, also known as El Castillo.
Authorities have banned the public from scaling the ancient steps of this UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2008 in an effort to conserve the historical monument.
But one silly tourist decided to defy the ban and climb to the top anyway, even doing a little dance with her hands up in the air like she didn’t really care that she was “disrespecting” an ancient Mayan pyramid.

From that high up she must have thought that everyone was cheering her on, impressed that she’d managed to climb 91 steps.
That changed when a security guard eventually went to fetch her and escorted her through the angry mob of tourists below:

When she reached the bottom of the 24-metre-high structure she was met with boos, shouts of protest, and various slurs of abuse while many doused her in water, threw other objects at her, and pulled her hair.

Sky News reports that angry onlookers were heard shouting “Out”, “Lock her up”, and “Jail!”
El Castillo was built by the pre-Columbian Maya civilisation sometime between the eighth and 12th centuries AD and served as a temple to the deity of Kukulcán.
So far it is Mexico’s most visited archaeological zone in 2022, noted Mexico News Daily.
