Jeff Bezos, the fourth wealthiest person in the world, opened up his busy schedule for an interview alongside his girlfriend Lauren Sánchez.
The couple has been together since 2019 (just after Bezos and his ex-wife, MacKenzie Scott, ended things) and this appears to be their first public sitting together since.
They were more than happy to gush that their teamwork makes their romance work, per The New York Post, speaking on their mutual adoration, their plans to unload a bunch of money to Dolly Parton, and how difficult philanthropy is.
As the founder of the spaceflight company Blue Origin, Bezos also mentioned his hopes to make space travel accessible for everyone at some point. He said he believes that everyone who wants to should be able to travel to space in his lifetime at least.
Sánchez, an Emmy-award-winning journalist, is also a licenced pilot and founder of Black Ops Aviation, the first female-owned and operated aerial film and production company.
She hopped into the space conversation saying that she plans on taking a space trip in 2023 accompanied by a “great group of females”. They then riff about Bezos learning to fly a helicopter and Sánchez being a “horrible backseat pilot”.
Besides chatting a little bit about how they spend their Saturday nights, the couple also revealed plans to give away most of their wealth during their lifetime. Well, Bezos did for the most part.
With $117,5 billion behind his name as we sit here, the Amazon founder can provide relief for countless charities with even a small donation.
While he admitted that he doesn’t yet have a plan on how to unload his billions on issues like climate change, his ex has already given away nearly $4 billion to 465 organizations in less than a year and twice that amount over the past two years.
At least he’s aware that he’s got some serious catching up to do.
Towards the end of the interview he also mentions that small American business owners should probably “batten down the hatches” as the global recession starts to take hold:
Thanks for your time, Bezos.
