As soon as I arrived home after a two-year stint overseas, I had a chocolate Steri Stumpie in remembrance of the good old days.
The flavoured milk beverage is a favourite childhood memory for so many South African kids, along with other goodies like NikNaks, Chomp chocolates, a couple of Chappies, and Black Cat Peanut Butter sarmies.
Been there, done that, got the padkos T-shirt stains.
Everyone’s favourite TikTok ‘Constantia Mom’ Cassidy Nicholson couldn’t agree more, saying that she has always loved Steri Stumpie.
“I have such fond memories of my childhood drinking Steri Stumpies – usually after a sports game and my dad always told me not to tell my mom. It was our delicious little secret!” She said.
As one of Mzansi’s most loved brands, this “secret” ingredient has proven to be useful in a variety of delectable dishes as well as being enjoyed on its own.
Cassidy was super excited to try it in her now-famous Steri Stumpie Chocolate Mousse recipe.
With hundreds of thousands of followers behind her name thanks to her ‘Constantia Mom’ alter-ego, Cassidy made everyone feel really nostalgic by showcasing the recipe on social media:

She said she loved making the recipe as it is “so simple and so easy which, if you know me and baking, that’s what it needs to be!”
It has also come at the perfect time as Steri Stumpie is finally able to celebrate its 50th birthday ‘Steri-bration’ after a two-year COVID-19 hiatus.

You’ll need:
- 200 grams of dark chocolate chopped

- one cup of Chocolate Steri Stumpie
- one cup (100g) of chopped white marshmallows

Then, follow these simple instructions:
- Heat the chocolate, the Steri Stumpie, and the marshmallows in a dry, heatproof bowl over a pot of simmering water, stirring until melted and smooth (about 10 minutes).
- Remove from heat and allow to cool to room temperature.
- Beat the cream to soft peaks and fold through the chocolate mixture.
- Pour into glasses or bowls and refrigerate for at least six hours or overnight before serving.
For that final touch before serving, top with a blob of whipped cream and sprinkle with chocolate shavings and mini marshmallows.
Ag lekker, that’s it.
