I’ll readily admit that I’ve accidentally left a jol without settling up at the bar.
Here’s the thing – you return the next day and pay up because that’s how it works.
If you want bottle service and the illusion of living large, cough up the dough or prepare to be publicly called out for non-payment.
Anticipation started building when Saint Champagne Bar & Lounge, located on Harrington Street in the Cape Town CBD, took to social media to warn that patience was wearing very thin.
According to Briefly, the club has become popular and attracts big names on the local scene like Sithelo Shozi, Amanda du-Pont, and the Major League DJz.
Multiple posts on Saturday requested that customers with “outstanding and overdue balance payments” had 12 hours to settle up or face a public shaming:

Some were able to make payment but it appears others dodged “phone calls, emails and text messages” from the club and did not settle up.
Yesterday evening, a final message was issued:

Then, from 7PM, the shaming kicked off and the Instagram handles of the guilty party were even included:

Choosing a photo where the guy has a massive plaster over his eye is just an added layer of hurt.
If you read the explanation offered, it’s tough not to side with the club:
We have many expenses and responsibilities and your failure to make payment has affected our business and many families.
We have a duty to pay suppliers, staff, artists, talents, agents, attorneys, the city of Cape Town, government and contractors, they too have expenses and responsibilities, same with the people they need to pay to.
That’s the thing – there’s a knock-on effect that can end up really hurting a number of businesses and individuals.

More than three people had their images posted. However, after settling, those photos were taken down.
I guess we now wait until Wednesday, once more at 7PM sharp, to see who else has fallen foul of the club:
