James Cameron let audiences into the world of Pandora and the Na’vi people in 2009 with the first Avatar movie.
With its innovative use of CGI and 3D, the movie soared through box office records and went on to become the highest-grossing movie ever made.
You would think that with such great success, the second instalment would be released as soon as possible, but Cameron has been sitting on his nest egg, waiting for the right technology to capture his vision.
We’ve waited long enough for Avatar 2, and finally, it is around the corner, with all its watery wonder.
The long-awaited teaser trailer for Avatar: The Way of Water was released earlier this year, with the official trailer revealed yesterday.
Behold the magic of Pandora (and then its destruction at the hands of humans):
It was clear from the first look that ground-breaking visual effects will be used, although, with the sequel unfolding in a new underwater setting, some are wondering if the story will live up to the original.
Even the original Avatar was critiqued for copying the storylines from Pocahontas or Studio Ghibli’s Princess Mononoke and just not living up to what some viewers desired.
Screen Rant reckons Avatar: The Way of Water‘s official trailer is a “great showcase of the sequel’s incredible CGI and the emotional story that Cameron, Rick Jaffa, and Amanda Silver wrote”.
I guess we will have to see when the movie comes out on December 16.
