We should give credit where credit is due.
There are times when the South African Police Service (SAPS) does its job and criminals are apprehended and prosecuted.
On the flip side, we’ve all seen the videos of crooks slipping out the back of SAPS vans and officers in uniform who are so hammered they can hardly stand or talk.
Let me avoid ranting about our esteemed Minister of Police before I ruin my morning.
Ridicule is once more headed the way of SAPS after a video filmed last Friday ahead of the coronation of Zulu King Misuzulu KaZwelithini made its way online.
Before Bheki Cele arrived, reports IOL, around 400 officers were practising their drills at the People’s Park, across the road from the Moses Mabhida Stadium:
The exercise turned into a joke when two officers nearly collided with one another when they could not follow the simple “left turn” instruction from the officer who was conducting the drill from stage.
This is a perfect example of how something can be amusing and worrying at the same time:

Another video showed what looks like the same officer again failing to march in step with her fellow SAPS members:

Somebody’s had a ‘mare.
Fun fact before we go – the Zulu royal household received more than R67 million from the KwaZulu-Natal provincial government for the 2022/23 financial year.
This will be used to “maintain and cater for six royal palaces, including a fleet of luxury cars for the royals, payment of royal aides and praise singers, school fees for royal children in the country’s top schools”.
I wonder how those KwaZulu-Natal residents still reeling from the province’s devastating floods feel about that.
