Camps Bay Bowling Club has seen its fair share of 21sts, 30ths, and general day ‘mares. Perhaps you’ve been involved in one and for that, I applaud you.

Bowls benefits from the fact that you can play it well into your latter years, as well as the fact that most bowls clubs sell drinks at prices you won’t find anywhere else.

Zoo Lake Bowls Club in Jozi became a favourite with students for this reason.

But let’s bring things back to the Mother City for this Throwback Thursday and a lovely mockumentary from days of old.

In 2013, Flash Four Films decided to profile two colourful characters:

The mockumentary style comedy King Of The Jack, tells the tale of two young men, Ron “The Swan” Morton and Tim “Twinkle Toes” McKenzie. Both men are massively fond of the sport Lawn Bowls and both are completely oblivious to their delusional grandeur.

Throughout this short 3 part web series we see these characters portray why they are who they are, why they do what they do but more importantly, why they are the best lawn bowlers of their generation, when in actual fact nobody really gives a shit.

Rob Coutts starred as ‘The Swan’ and Mat Caldecott as ‘Twinkle Toes’.

After all of these years, the magic hasn’t faded:

Two distinct styles that are sure to come to blows before the series is out.
