Cracking down on corruption in South Africa is a full-time job.
I’m sure it pays well and the kickbacks are lovely, too.
Last week, while holding a press conference regarding uncovering corruption within the Department of Transport and road traffic entities, advocate Andy Mothibi had a bit of a stinker.
The head of the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) was briefing the media about the findings of an investigation undertaken by the SIU and the Road Traffic and Management Corporation when he mixed up a popular phrase:
Don’t worry, guys. Government has assured us that they’ll leave no turn unstoned when fighting corruption. pic.twitter.com/1xbUOmzgIR

Well, I feel assured.
The phrase sounds like something Snoop Dogg would say. By the way, the rapper’s personal joint roller reckons Dogg smokes up to 150 joints a day.
I suppose we should flesh this story out with the help of SABC News:
Mothibi said the SIU is estimated to conclude its investigation by 31 March 2023.
“The SIU continues to receive allegations from whistleblowers. The SIU will continue to investigate and further engage with the RTMC and the Department of Transport where there is a need to amend the current Proclamations or process a new Proclamation,” Mothibi said.
Sure it will.
Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula was also on hand to utter a few hollow words about how the department is “making headway in uprooting malfeasance and corruption”.
Couldn’t he just have stayed in Ukraine?
