A Kanye West / Piers Morgan interview was only ever going to end one way.
Two men who love the sound of their own voices and generally refuse to listen to any view that differs from their own clashing during an interview? Well, I’m shocked.
Kanye’s most recent unravelling is his most damaging yet, with the likes of Adidas, Gap, JPMorgan, and Balenciaga cutting ties as he kisses his billionaire status goodbye.
Earlier this month, ‘Ye’ appeared on Piers Morgan Uncensored and the two didn’t always see eye to eye, reports NME:
West was repeatedly challenged by the host over his antisemitic comments, prompting West to say: “You don’t hold accountability to my pain. You’re being a Karen.”
“I’m not a Karen, I’m not going to cancel you, and I’m not going to censor you,” Morgan responded. “I’m simply going to challenge you on what you’re saying. I don’t think you understand the pain you’ve been causing with some of these comments.”
In another exchange, Kanye repeatedly called Piers ‘boy’, which the host didn’t take kindly to.
At the four-minute mark, Kanye tells Piers that it’s “interview adjourned”. However, likely because he hadn’t had enough of hearing his own voice, the rapper returned:
When a guy says, and he’s being dead serious, “I ain’t finished my brilliant idea” you’re dealing with a grade-A narcissist.
Later in the above clip, Kanye also says that the things he says “are on behalf of God”. Oh, boy.
The full interview ran almost 100 minutes in length. Thankfully, someone has edited it down to a 10-minute highlights package:
One more exchange worth discussing is Kanye’s comments about US President Joe Biden and Elon Musk, as summed up by Complex:
“Biden doesn’t listen to Elon Musk. The President of the United States does not have meetings with Elon Musk. That is fucking—hey, here, come, come, come get me—that’s fucking r*****ed,” West said with a big smile.
“I know I’m not supposed to say that Biden, but that’s fucking r******d, Biden. And, and, you know, it’s, um…and obviously because I’ve been deemed with mental health, all this, I have the right to use whatever words that I like to use.”
I’m not entirely sure it works like that but at this point, that’s the least of Kanye’s worries.
