Well done to the unnamed winner of the R28,2 million Lotto jackpot. I’m really happy for you and not at all jealous.
The Witbank businessman won precisely R28 219 392 (with an extra 25 cents to boot) and says his first splurge will be…
Wait for it, because this is a goodie…
A vacuum truck for his business.
He says he enjoys cycling and watching football in his spare time, so maybe he’ll also splurge on a moerse TV and some offensively tight Lycra pants.
The man hit the Lotto Plus 1 jackpot in the October 19 draw and was first alerted to his winnings when he received an FNB notification informing him that he won more than R250 000.
Here’s IOL:
“At first he thought it was a scam, until he received a phone call from FNB, verifying that he had indeed won a big amount and that he needed to proceed to the Ithuba office to claim his winnings.”
…“All I knew was that it was over R250 000. I didn’t know it was the whole jackpot until I arrived at Ithuba offices and realised I was a multimillionaire.”
For winnings of more than R50 000, Ithuba (which runs the National Lottery) offers trauma and financial counselling by psychologists and financial advisors.
The winnings are received tax-free by the winner within 48 to 72 hours of them being notified. As for his winning method, consistency is key:
He plays all the national lottery games once a month and spends up to R250 on his tickets.
The winner said his method had been to replay the same set of numbers each time.
“As a businessman, although I have always had money in different amounts, I also always believed that I would win the Lotto someday.”
I too believe I will win, if that helps.
Unfortunately, we must also report that there will be no immediate retirement, with the winner saying, “My life will continue as normal, I will not stop working.”
What a waste. We can only hope last month’s winner of R86,9 million, with the lucky ticket purchased in Durbanville, sees the light.
Tonight’s PowerBall draw is R70 million and the PowerBall Plus is R57 million.
