The release date, the title, and the cover for Prince Harry’s much-anticipated autobiography are finally out.
The para-royal is publishing his memoir that has the potential to rock the British Royal Family to the core with the title Spare.
The book has caused a bit of a stir for The Duke of Sussex and wife Meghan Markle, as it might contain information that can further isolate them from the British Royal Family at large.
It was reported that they would only be invited to King Charles III’s coronation, penned in for May 6, 2023, on the condition that the book doesn’t say a bad word about the new King, and especially his wife, Camilla the Queen Consort.
Harry might have been ferociously editing out the bits that could get him into trouble, or not, but we will know soon enough when the book is published on January 10, Penguin Random House has confirmed via The Telegraph.
The veil on the cover has also been lifted, showing Harry staring out, “reminiscent of his days in the military”, with a brown t-shirt and black string necklace:
By that look, we should be in for a whole lot of honesty.
A spokesman for the publisher said that this is Harry’s “story at last”:
“SPARE takes readers immediately back to one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror.
“As Diana, Princess of Wales, was laid to rest, billions wondered what the princes must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.
…”With its raw, unflinching honesty, SPARE is a landmark publication full of insight, revelation, self- examination, and hard-won wisdom about the eternal power of love over grief.”
Markus Dohle, Global CEO of Penguin Random House worldwide, called the book “candid” and an “emotionally powerful story”.
The book will be released in 16 languages, including an unabridged audio edition that Prince Harry will read himself.
Proceeds from the book will be donated to charity, including Sentebale, which supports vulnerable children and young people in Lesotho and Botswana affected by HIV/AIDS (they received $1 500 000).
Will the British Royal Family “spare” Harry when this book reaches the hands of millions? The answer no feels appropriate at this stage.
