Los Angeles is known as the city of Angels to many.

It is one of the few places that many people visit to follow their dreams.

However, not everything that sparkles is truly shiny.

Hollywood starlet and avid activist, Susan Sarandon made the choice to shine a light on the other side of LA, sharing a video online that has caused quite a stir:

According to The New York Post, the award-winning actress put the clip up without any sort of commentary, but what is truly wild is the harrowing nature of the content.

It highlights the plight of homeless people in LA, featuring makeshift dwellings, shabby tents, and scores of homeless people living in squalor.

Homelessness has become quite a massive issue in the United States, a topic that has been discussed on quite a number of prominent news platforms. Sarandon’s post proves that the crisis is growing each and every day.

Here in our own backyard, the City of Cape Town is also finding ways to manage the homeless crisis. The city has placed great emphasis on homeless by-laws, which are somewhat controversial for criminalising the victims of homelessness rather than helping them find safe places to live.

Many of Susan’s followers were shocked to learn that the footage was shot in their own city:

“I needed to read the comments, I thought Susan was visiting Argentina. This image is typical in my country,” a South American fan tweeted.

“Hard to believe this is US,” said another.

More and more people find themselves in a tough spot. Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of homeless people has seen quite a sharp uptick.

It’s a great thing that Susan shared the post to raise awareness and inspire others to live with developments in their country.
