There are so many natural phenomena that stop us in our tracks and make us gawk in awe.

When someone is able to capture something for all to see, it somehow strengthens our connection to Mother Nature.

While many of us were slowly rising from our slumber, Adam Fillmore captured the rare birth of an elephant at the Kruger National Park.

He shared the two-minute-long video on Facebook and it has gone viral.

In the video, we see the mother deliver the baby while the rest of the herd forms a protection circle around her. As the baby slowly comes to life, the herd begins to chant and celebrate its arrival with sound.

Ike Phaala, a representative of SanParks states via TimesLIVE that it is fairly common for a group of elephants to chant and let the sound of their trumpets ring, while she gives birth:

“There is safety in numbers, especially when the other elephants surround the new mother. Their strong sounds or signals are also to frighten nearby predators. The trumpeting announces the arrival of a new member to the other members of the herd.” Phaala said

The trumpeting wards off any predators and creates a comfortable space for this natural phenomenon to occur.

Isn’t it wonderful that they turn to song in order to ward off any danger and celebrate the birth of new life? 

Mother Nature seems to be full of many gems and the sighting of this rare birth is a beaming jewel in her crown.
