Over the course of our existence, we’ve seen a number of astonishing inventions and feats that were thought to be impossible, until someone made the choice to try.
People have the remarkable ability to make the intangible concrete, just like what the Wright Brothers did with the invention of aeroplanes, or what Michael Jordan did with his legendary slam dunk.
These two bold feats defy gravity, an almighty force of nature.
According to Buzzfeed News, the ‘Well of Death’ in India is another incredible act that is a thrilling, high-octane middle finger to mother nature and the grim reaper.
It is essentially an incredible performance that occurs during the months of Ashvin in India, which runs from September to October. During this time a number of festivals pop up to add splashes of vibrancy to the nation.
As the festivals crop up so do the brave daredevils. They choose their chariots, be it in the form of a motorbike or car, and through the use of centrifugal force, the entertainers drive on the curved wooden walls of the well.
Onlookers tend to jeer, cheer and hand the daredevils offerings for their awesome efforts.
Take a look at the videos below for some truly death-defying stunts:
Less talking, more action:
The atmosphere is always electric when the roar of the engines fills the makeshift arenas. Men, women, and children are always kept on their toes.
More importantly, the daredevils are fuelled by the energy of the crowd and their ability to defy gravity for a moment
This is the sort of tango with death that would make Evil Knievel and Hollywood stuntmen beam with pride.
I’m curious about two things. One, do they care about the price of fuel? Two, I wonder what Nietzsche would say about this festivity.
