Mid-October – it’s suddenly light when you rise, tourists are beginning to arrive, and the first Christmas decorations are going up.
Nothing like your local supermarket reminding you more than two months in advance that you should give in to the material beast and spend your hard-earned money on presents for other people.
Consider going the Secret Santa route as a family and you’ll spare yourself countless headaches.
With the decorations come the Christmas movies and one of the first out of the blocks is Spirited, from Apple TV+.
Normally, we would avoid these at all costs but Spirited does star Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell so we’ll nibble.
Over to IndieWire:
Based on Charles Dickens’ classic novella “A Christmas Carol,” “Spirited” focuses on the Ghost of Christmas Present, portrayed in the original story as a Father Christmas-esque figure.
…Ferrell plays the spirit, who spends every year selecting a new corrupted person to be visited by him and the ghosts of Christmases Past and Future. However, when he chooses Clint Briggs (Reynolds) as the ghosts’ new project, he winds up getting the script flipped on him by the savvy businessman, who forces the spirit to go through his own past, present, and future.
I think you know what you’re getting with this one.
Reynolds will be full of quips, there’ll be good banter with Ferrell, and you’re guaranteed a happy ending.
The musical score comes with great pedigree due to the involvement of Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, who are best known for their Oscar-winning work on La La Land.
The film will release in select US theatres on November 11. It will then be released on Apple TV+ on November 18.
