Nadine Macaluso was married to Jordan Belfort, AKA the main man from The Wolf of Wall Street, from 1991 to 1998. The couple had two kids together during that time.

But now that the children are all grown-up and “fully functioning adults,” and since Macaluso has become a family therapist and somatic psychologist, she’s sharing the not-so-glamorous details of her relationship with the former stockbroker.

The 54-year-old has taken to TikTok to share all the ways love-bombing, gaslighting, and trauma bonding work in the world of domestic abuse, citing her relationship with Belfort as a prime example.

As Yahoo! News notes, the abuse Macaluso received at the hands of her husband is well-documented in Belfort’s book and Martin Scorsese’s film adaptation of his story, both of which recount the time Belfort kicked her down a flight of stairs.

“Jordan and I were in an unhealthy relationship that resulted in domestic violence,” she admitted.

In one video, she says, “Can you imagine having a movie made about your life, about your love life that was a Greek tragedy? It’s not fun.”

Decider reports that Macaluso confirmed that one scene in the film where Jonah Hill‘s Donnie Azoff (based on real-life former stock broker Danny Porush) exposes himself to her was real, and marked the moment she met her husband-to-be:

“It was actually pretty similar to the movie. I was 22 years old and modeling, and my boyfriend at the time said, ‘Do you want to go to this party in West Hampton at this house on the beach?’ and I was like ‘sure.’”

She continued to say that everybody was “acting really weird” and were “Quaalude-d out.”

She added, “They were all with their wives and they were making lewd and weird comments. And that scene where someone actually exposes himself to me was true. I actually got terrified by that. I was 22 and I said to my boyfriend at the time, ‘we have to leave this party,’ and we left right away.”

She spoke about how her ex-husband “exploited our life in the way he wanted to” and now she wants to educate and empower everyone about how domestic abuse manifests and affects mental health.

In her videos, she goes from explaining gaslighting and the signs she wished she hadn’t ignored in her relationship with Belfort to sharing what it was like to meet Margot Robbie (Robbie played Macaluso in the Wolf of Wall Street) so Robbie could nail her thick Brooklyn accent.

She also referenced that time Belfort “love-bombed” her by filling her 800-square-foot apartment with flowers:

A year and a half after leaving, she met her current husband of 22 years, John Macaluso:

Macaluso says she only felt comfortable leaving the 7-year marriage once Belfort was arrested and required to wear an ankle bracelet — so she “knew he could not harm me.”

After ticking off a PhD in somatic and depth psychology, Macaluso has been spending the last couple of years writing a book on trauma bonds.

She says she often gets messages from people saying they cannot thank her enough for how much she’s helped them.
