Navigating South Africa’s roads isn’t for the faint of heart.
There’s the threat of being hijacked, for one, but there’s also a degree of lawlessness from road users.
A series of recent truck accidents in KwaZulu-Natal once again brought that issue to the fore.
Now there’s a video showing a driver running over and injuring a pedestrian in Verulam, north of Durban, on Tuesday afternoon.
The moment a white Toyota Yaris lost control and struck the woman was captured on CCTV footage:
An alleged heated argument between lovers turns deadly when one of them grabbed hold of the steering wheel causing the vehicle to veer off the road and crushing into a 44 year old female pedestrian on Ireland Street, Verulam CBD in KZN. pic.twitter.com/doyEgxAmgn

The woman was stabilised on the scene before being transported to hospital by ambulance.
Reaction Unit South Africa shared the footage on social media with the following description:
While the cause of the incident remains unverified, TimesLIVE has confirmed that the 43-year-old driver was arrested.
Police spokesperson Lt-Col Nqobile Gwala said the driver has been charged with reckless and negligent driving and was due to appear in court today.
