Someone on Twitter said they suffered “second, third and fourth-hand embarrassment” from this awkward moment at Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral.
When 4,1 billion viewers (almost half the world’s population) were expected to have tuned into the Queen’s funeral, reported The Daily Mail, then you might as well add in fifth and sixth-hand embarrassment, too.
In fact, as another person said, “If this was me 20 years from now I’d still be waking up in a cold sweat just at the memory of the shame.”
Now that you are sufficiently prepared for the awkwardness, the moment occurred when a doorman greeting guests as they entered Westminster Abbey seemingly batted away the hand of a particular woman.
The man had kindly welcomed visitors by shaking their hands, but as soon as the blonde woman approached, he awkwardly declined her greeting, leaving her in a trail of her own fiddly mutterings.
You’re welcome to squint through your fingers:

We need more context into the backstory. Could it be an ex? Someone the doorman had a fling with and was shocked to see again?
Maybe he just failed at his job for a moment and she had nothing to do with it. Shame, but she is the one who will probably live with that moment for quite some time.
Where are the professional lip readers and body language experts when you need them?
Probably too focused on Meghan Markle to see anything else:

By the way, in terms of the actual number of people who watched this scene and the general ceremony, it is a little difficult to pin down since it is mostly all guesswork, but The Sydney Morning Herald did a fair job of trying.
The Daily Mail couldn’t get over how “poignant” everything was at the ceremony, using the word in three consecutive sentences, noting that 2 000 VIPs, royals, prime ministers and several hundred ordinary Britons chosen by the Queen were present for the state funeral.
Here are a few other noteworthy moments from the funeral:
Including a teensy-weensy spider that stole the spotlight:

‘The Royal Spider’ has its own Twitter account now, too:

Every cable news network: “Was that?….yes, I believe a spider just crawled across the queen’s coffin”
