We are all set for another blockbuster weekend of sporting action.
The Proteas start their third and final test against the Poms today, which should at least see us through the weekend, the US Open finals are Saturday and Sunday, and there’s a full round of English Premier League football to enjoy.
How are the Liverpool fans feeling this morning? Don’t take too much nonsense from Manchester United or Arsenal fans, at least you’re in the Champions League.
In Cape Town, the biggest buzz is around the Rugby World Cup Sevens. Festivities kick off tomorrow at the Cape Town Stadium when Ireland takes on Portugal at 8:45AM and the matches come thick and fast.
Our first chance to cheer on our home side comes when the SA women’s team meets France at 6:35PM.
The Blitzboks then close out day one at 7:03PM, against the winner of a qualification match between Germany and Chile that takes place earlier in the day.
Assuming the Blitzboks win that clash, they will then play on Saturday at 10:33PM. I think it’s safe to assume that the crowd will be suitably sauced by then and it should be a rocking atmosphere.
On Sunday, the men’s Championship matches start with the semi-finals from 12:35PM and the final will take place at 8:54PM.
The women’s quarter-finals start from 7:07PM on Saturday, the semi-finals start from 12:07PM on Sunday, and the final takes place at 8:17PM.
You can see the full list of fixtures here.
If anybody is still musing over their outfit for the rugby, may I suggest ‘Avo Man’:
Andrè “ Krummelpap” van der Berg’s outfit at the 2018 Sydney Sevens is one for the ages.
That same year, the Cape Town Sevens also produced a few stellar efforts – see those here.
