Even though new data has pointed out that South African criminals are developing much more sophisticated hijacking tactics, it is still shocking to see how brazen these incidents sometimes are.
CCTV footage from a Durban business premise parking lot shows four men loaded with guns pulling up behind a white Golf 7, accosting the female driver, and then stealing her car.
IOL reported that the hijacking seemed well planned as the four suspects moved quickly and effortlessly, seemingly taking on different roles in the robbery.
Provincial police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo said that the incident happened yesterday at 8:15AM in the parking lot of a well-known store on Tara Road on the Bluff in Durban.
A case of carjacking was opened at Brighton Beach police station for investigation.
In case you need to make better sense of what you just watched, here’s a play-by-play of what happened.
Two men jumped out of their own car, pinned the woman to the side of the car parked next to her vehicle, and stole her car keys.
One man stood guard over her while another stood watching nearby with a gun, as the other suspects drove off with the stolen Golf 7.
Meanwhile, three car guards nearby ran away while a female customer who witnessed the action grabbed her handbag and quickly ran back into the store, too.
In the end, the victim sat completely defeated near the empty parking bay where her car had been a moment before.
