Does a series feature Sir David Attenborough?
If yes, then sign me up.
I’ll assume you’ve ticked off The Green Planet, as well as Prehistoric Planet (one for the dinosaur lovers), so let’s start talking about Frozen Planet II.
The first iteration of the series aired more than a decade ago so we’re long overdue for something spectacular.
As the BBC points out, that’s pretty much a given at this stage:
High-speed drones whizz along an avalanche’s deadly wall of tumbling snow, rare Siberian tigers hunt hibernating prey, and microscopes capture ice breaking…
Frozen Planet II returns, using new technology to give BBC viewers an unprecedented insight into life in the coldest parts of our planet, many of which are under huge threat from climate change.
It took the BBC Natural History Unit (NHU) four and a half years of filming across 18 different countries to produce the six-part series.
Attenborough appears chuffed with the result and has heralded a number of “natural phenomena never before seen by humans”.
Expect an emotional rollercoaster of a soundtrack, with Hans Zimmer responsible for the score. He worked with Camila Cabello to produce a new song for the trailer:
Filming happened on every continent, including Antarctica, and in space. Key species featured include Pallas’s cat (it has the densest fur of any cat so they can stay warm through the harsh Mongolian winter), hooded seals, emperor penguins, and killer whales.
The first episode will air this Sunday (September 11) in the UK on BBC One.
