In Japan, when spring waddles in, it is traditional to sit on a blanket under the cherry blossoms and admire the fleeting beauty of nature.
It is also customary to sip sake and get sozzled, just as long as you’re thinking about the transience of things.
In Cape Town, those of us with a car also have a little spring tradition: heading out to the West Coast for a day of wildflower viewing and carpool karaoke.
The flowers are delightful enough, but it is not a proper road trip without a well-packed padkos.
Just in time, then, is this delicious spring concoction piled with all the freshness and goodness one needs after a cold, rainy winter.
We might need to hold the horses on that until the rain actually goes wena hamba, but then we can go bos with Sir Fruit‘s latest vegan spoil:
The Green Smoothie is a light and refreshing drink consisting of kiwi, green melon, oat milk, cucumber, and spinach.
Don’t underestimate the little hairy fruit, as kiwis are high in vitamin C and dietary fibre. They provide a variety of benefits, like the ability to support heart health, digestive health, and immunity.
Green melons, too, are packed with vitamin C and potassium, while also being incredibly hydrating and naturally sweet.
Adding the superstar among the green leafy vegetables, spinach, really drives home the goodness.
Also keeping things smooth and vegan is the classic Peanut Butter Smoothie, bolstered with peanut butter, banana, cocoa, and oat milk:

Creamy and indulgent, it’s enough to make the birds and the bees jealous.
Stock up with your goodies (best ordered via Sir Fruit online, of course) and you’ll be putting that much-needed spring in your step and pep in your padkos.
Get cracking, because the wildflowers won’t last forever.
