Even though Jeff Bezos is not at all shy of the limelight, the names of his four children remain mostly out of the spotlight.
That’s quite a feat considering all the attention their father gets.
He shares three boys and one adopted daughter from China with ex-wife and novelist MacKenzie Scott, but little is known about them and their upbringing.
However, we are getting to know a little more about Preston Bezos, Jeff’s eldest son, who is the only one of the four kids whose name has been publicly mentioned.
Born in 2000, Preston has been living a relatively private life, but he has been spotted out and about a few times, These include attending the 2020 Oscars and the 2019 American Portrait Gala with his dad (up top and below), and eating at Nobu with Jeff and his latest squeeze, Lauren Sánchez.
Bezos has been known to boast of the things he’s proud of, but he hasn’t shared shots of his kids on Instagram.
Preston may inherit Amazon and his parents’ billions someday, being the firstborn and all, so he is someone the public seems interested in getting to know, slowly but surely at least.
According to Forbes, Bezos’ real-time net worth is valued at $155,3 billion at the time of writing.
If Jeff and Scott decided to consolidate their current net worths of $155,3 billion and $38,6 billion respectively, as per Forbes and divide it evenly among their kids, Preston’s inheritance would come in at around $48,5 billion.
It seems the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree; taking his father’s middle name (Jeffrey Preston Bezos), the 22-year-old attends Princeton University, which is the same university that his father graduated from in 1986.
Preston was recently snapped alongside a university friend:
South China Morning Post reported on Bezos’ interesting parenting tips:
In 2017, speaking at the Summit Series in Los Angeles, Jeff shared a surprising method on raising successful children, giving a unique peek into how Preston was brought up.
He said he let his kids play with sharp knives and power tools at a young age. He added that, by letting kids take risks and be self-reliant, it teaches them resourcefulness – an important trait in business and daily life.
Bezos, as the founder of aerospace company Blue Origin and the owner of The Washington Post, as well as the executive chairman of Amazon (having stepped down from his role as CEO), still manages to make time for his kids:
He mentions he “putters” once he gets up. “I like to read the newspaper, I like to have coffee, I like to have breakfast with my kids before they go to school,” Bezos explained at the Economic Club of Washington DC, in 2018.
Preston has some serious shoes to fill, but, via Princeton, he could be headed in the right direction.
